I found this platform in India, they do certified pre-owned luxury watches, so that was an option for sourcing some parts. It’s not easy, buying one of these fancy Patek Philippe watches, especially this Calatrava 5227R-001, it ain’t for the faint of heart, you know.
Sourcing Parts
I hit up a bunch of watch forums and online marketplaces. I was looking for folks who were selling parts or even whole watches that I could maybe salvage. It’s kind of a niche hobby, but you’d be surprised how many people are into this stuff. I even considered those affordable vintage women’s models that start around 3,300 USD, just to get my hands on some genuine Patek Philippe parts. But for a men’s Calatrava, like the ref. 5226G, that’s a whole other story. You need to find the right ones.
Putting It Together
With some parts gathered, I started the assembly process. Let me tell you, it’s not as easy as it looks in those fancy watchmaking videos. I got myself a decent set of tools, watched a ton of tutorials, and just went for it. There were definitely some frustrating moments, a few close calls where I thought I’d ruined the whole thing, but I kept at it.
