So, I’ve been itching to get my hands on one of those fancy Yves Saint Laurent LE CARRÉ SATCHEL BAGs, but my wallet’s been telling me “no way, buddy!” You know how it is, you see something shiny and you just gotta have it. But those price tags? Ouch. So, I rolled up my sleeves and thought, “Why not try to make one myself?”
First off, I started digging around the internet, looking at pictures of the real deal, every stitch, every angle, front, back, side, all of that. I zoomed in on those product shots like a hawk, trying to memorize all the details. I even went to a fancy department store just to see one in person. Felt it, inspected it, took some sneaky photos, you know, for research.
- Scouring photos online: Got a good look at the bag from all sides.
- Visiting a store: Got to touch the real thing and take notes.
- Taking pictures: Snapped some reference pics for later.
Then came the fun part – picking out the materials. I wanted something that looked and felt like the real leather they use, but without the hefty price tag. I spent hours in fabric and craft stores, feeling different leathers and faux leathers, comparing colors and textures. It was tough, but I finally found a faux leather that I thought was a pretty good match, and it didn’t make my wallet cry. I also made sure to grab some sturdy thread, a good zipper, and some metal hardware that looked like the stuff on the original bag.
- Finding the right leather: Looked for something similar but cheaper.
- Choosing thread and zipper: Got strong thread and a good quality zipper.
- Picking out hardware: Found metal pieces that look like the original.
Now, the real work began. I measured and cut the leather, trying to follow the dimensions of the real bag as closely as possible. There was a lot of measuring, cutting, and then measuring again, just to make sure I didn’t mess it up. Then, I started sewing. Let me tell you, sewing is a lot harder than it looks! My sewing machine and I had a few disagreements, but eventually, we made it work. Slowly but surely, the pieces started to come together, and it actually started to look like a bag!
- Measuring and cutting: Carefully measured and cut the leather pieces.
- Sewing: Put the pieces together with my sewing machine.
- Taking shape: It started to look like a real bag!
The final step was adding the hardware – the buckle, the strap attachments, all those little details that make the bag look polished. That was fiddly work, but so satisfying when it was done. And there it was, my very own handmade version of the YSL LE CARRÉ SATCHEL BAG. It might not be the real deal, but I’m pretty darn proud of it! It’s not perfect, mind you, a few wonky stitches here and there, but hey, it’s mine, and I made it!
The Result
A handmade bag that looks a lot like the expensive YSL one, but cost way less. It’s got its quirks, but it’s unique and I love it! And I learned a ton about sewing and working with leather, which is a pretty cool bonus.
