It took a lot of hammering, filing, and polishing, but eventually, I got it looking pretty close to the real deal. And about that thickness, I tried my best to keep it thin, just like the original. Then came the movement. This was the real challenge. I knew I couldn’t replicate the intricate mechanics of a Patek Philippe movement, so I bought a simple, reliable quartz movement online. It wasn’t the same, but it did the job of keeping time. Fitting the movement into the case was another story. It was like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole, but with a lot of patience and a little bit of luck, I managed to get it in there.
After that, I worked on the dial. I printed out a picture of the Calatrava 5226G-001 dial and carefully cut it out. I then glued it onto a thin piece of metal and attached it to the movement. It wasn’t perfect, but it looked pretty darn good from a distance.
Finally, I added a strap. I found an old leather strap I had lying around and attached it to the case. It wasn’t the fancy alligator strap that comes with the real Calatrava, but it was comfortable and looked decent enough.
