Okay, so, today I messed around with a Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Perpetual Calendar watch. Yeah, that super fancy one. I’m not a watch expert or anything, but this thing looked pretty slick, so I wanted to see what the buzz was about.
First off, I noticed it had this “in-house Calibre 868” thing. Sounds important, right? I guess it’s like the engine of the watch, and JLC made it themselves. Pretty cool if you ask me.
I started looking around to find more about it, and it seems like JLC is a big deal in the watch world. Some people even compare them to, like, Vacheron Constantin and Patek Philippe. Those are some heavy hitters, I guess.
Next, I tried to figure out the whole date thing. I found out the date window is at the 6 o’clock position. Easy enough. And the dial, man, it was this blue-gray color. Looked sharp, but I can see how some might say it’s a bit “cluttered.” There’s a lot going on there, but it wasn’t a big deal for me.
Then I started comparing it to other JLC watches, like the Master Ultra Thin Date. That one’s simpler, I guess, but this Perpetual Calendar has more going on. I like my watches with a bit of complexity, so I was leaning towards the Perpetual Calendar.
- Size: From what I saw, it’s around 39mm in diameter and 7.8mm thick. Not too bulky, which is good.
- Serial Number: I learned that the serial number is on the movement, either on the back or under the dial. Kinda like a secret code for each watch.
I dug a bit deeper and found that the year on the case might be a year or two behind the movement’s year. Something about them putting the watch together later on. Interesting, huh?
Then I looked up about the brand because, I guess, it makes you think more carefully about your purchase, right? I found out a man who wears this brand definitely values quality. That’s a good thing, I guess!
Wrapping Up
So, after my little adventure with the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Perpetual Calendar, I gotta say, it’s a nice piece. It’s got that “high-horology” vibe, whatever that means, and it looks good on the wrist. Would I buy it? Maybe, if I had that kind of money. But for now, I’m just a guy who likes to check out fancy watches and share my thoughts. It’s a cool watch, no doubt. But, yeah, it’s definitely not a cheap one!
