So, I got this wild hair to try and make a fancy bag, you know, one of those designer ones. This time, it was the Yves Saint Laurent LE CARRÉ SATCHEL BAG. Yeah, the name’s a real mouthful, but it’s basically just a nice-looking purse. I spotted it at the official store, and I thought, “Why not give it a shot?”
First thing I did was dive deep into research. I spent hours looking at every little detail of that bag. Checked out the leather, the stitching, the hardware, everything. It seems like folks call this kind of thing a “remake” – whatever that means. Anyway, I figured I needed some decent leather and all the metal bits, so I went hunting for those. Found some pretty good stuff after a bit of searching.
- Sourcing the leather: This was a bit of a pain, but I finally found something that looked and felt right.
- Finding the hardware: The little buckles and clasps and stuff. Took some time, but I managed to get some that were close enough.
Next up, I had to make a pattern. Now, I’m no expert, but I drew out all the pieces and cut them out of some scrap fabric to see if it would all fit together. It took a few tries, but eventually, I got something that looked about right.
Then came the actual making part. I started sewing the pieces together, real slow and careful. Some parts were tricky, especially around the corners and where the straps attach. I messed up a few times and had to redo some seams, but I kept at it.
Finally, after a lot of work, I finished it! It’s not exactly like the real one, of course – mine’s probably a bit rough around the edges. But you know what? I’m pretty darn proud of it. It actually looks like a bag! And it holds my stuff, which is the whole point, right?
I saw some online about these bags. People are always going on about serial numbers and stuff. Apparently, if it is made after 1997 it has one. This YSL bag, you can find it online too. But yeah, remaking this bag was a fun little project. It was tough, but I learned a lot. Maybe I’ll try another one someday!
I also heard people mention something called the “YSL JUNE BOX BAG”. Sounds interesting. Maybe that’s next on my list. Who knows!
I’m just glad I could make something for myself without breaking the bank, that fancy bag costs a small fortune. I’m happy with my version of the purse.
